Empowerment in Action: Chelsea Logistics Celebrates the Women’s Month with ChelSHE
Manila, Philippines – Chelsea Logistics celebrated Women’s Month with its 3 C’s – ‘Command, Capacity, and Connection’. This theme focused on women who take charge (Command), have the expertise to deliver (Capacity), and build the networks that keep the supply chain moving (Connection).
Honoring ChelSHEs
Through the ChelSHE initiative, Chelsea honored the merited success of its brave ‘ChelSHEroes” from the different business units who have proven themselves to be women of Command, Capacity, and Connections through their passion, commitment, and strong leadership qualities that challenged the misconceptions about women in the logistics/maritime industry.
HUNT, SNAP, AND CELEBRATE
As part of the Chelsea Logistics’ celebration, the Team prepared a thrilling week-long sticker hunt to stimulate the high spirits of women. Employees and non-employees were invited to join the hunt from March 25, 2026 to March 31, 2026 at Chelsea and its subsidiaries offices in BGC, Batangas, and Cebu. Game participants searched for stickers with unique codes near designated spaces, snapped a photo as proof, and sent it to the Chelsea Travel Facebook Page. Each lucky finder was gifted with one (1) round-trip ticket to a destination on the shipping line of her choice, a well-deserved prize for women with patience and enthusiasm to win.
SEMINAR ON WOMEN’S WELLNESS JOURNEY AND SAFE SPACES ACT
The HR Department organized an informative and empowering two-day seminar on March 23-24, 2026 which touched on women’s wellness journey and the Safe Spaces Act. Dr. Aika Buenavista, an Occupational Health Physician and Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician spoke about the different stages of a woman’s wellness journey: The Awakening, The Internal Assessment, The Roadmap, and The Covenant. The whole process is a holistic approach to women’s wellness by moving from initial realization to long-term devotion, a commitment to herself that ensures her health journey becomes a permanent lifestyle rather than a temporary fix.
On the Safe Spaces Act Mr. Alvin Belen, a Life Coach and Mental Health Advocate, addressed specific challenges that women face in their workplace in connection to his discussion of the Safe Spaces Act or Bawal Bastos Law. Mr. Belen enumerated the proscribed actions under the Safe Spaces Act:
- Catcalling
- Leering/Intrusive gazing.
- Cursing and taunting.
- Unwanted invitations
- Misogynistic, transphobic, homophobic, and sexist slurs.
- Persistent uninvited comments
- Statement of sexual comments, suggestions, or jokes.
- Public masturbation
- Groping, touching, pinching, or brushing against the body.
- Stalking (physical or visual proximity that causes fear).
Studies have shown that overcoming the barrier to reporting gender-based discrimination and harassment is arguably more challenging than addressing the offenses themselves.
Research indicates that approximately one in five (22%) Filipino women in employment have experienced violence and harassment at work. This includes psychological, physical, and sexual harassment often caused by co-workers or superiors. Some studies suggest that 47% of women in the Philippines refused to report it out of fear, stigma, and professional retaliation, which is relatively high for underreported cases, (ILO, LRF, & Gallup, 2022).
Having this in mind, during the seminar Management representatives encouraged everyone to become mindful of their actions towards others, stressing that creating a safe space truly begins with the awareness of one’s own unconscious biases. They also promoted the use of confidential whistleblowing channels as a dedicated avenue for reporting violations with an assurance of confidentiality to the greatest extent possible.
These initiatives continue to highlight Chelsea’s commitment to strive for inclusivity within the maritime industry and to elevate the lives and livelihood of its ChelSHEroes.
